Time: 8.30 am

Where: Mt French N.P. car park

Directions: Travel south of Boonah on the Rathdowney Road for about 750m. Turn right at the Dugandan Hotel into Mt French Road and follow it all the way to the parking area at the top of the mountain; bitumen road all the  way.

Mt French is a very popular place for climbers on the weekends so the car park can become crowded. If you can arrange to take someone with you in your vehicle it would help, as parking is limited in the parking area.

Activities: This morning outing will suit all fitness levels though the Mee-bo-rum track goes over rocky heath with stone slabs. Apart from admiring the views from the North and East lookouts we will be doing our usual birding, butterfly and insect identification, and especially noting the native flora though it may be too early for flowering. The vegetation is mostly montane heath on exposed rock faces with open eucalypt forest in areas with more soil. In sheltered areas there  are some patches of rainforest. Endemic flora species occur on the peaks that can be found nowhere else on earth.

Level of Fitness: All levels of fitness, mainly flat track or flat rock slabs. (Grade 2: Formed track. May have gentle hills and some steps. Clearly signposted. No experience required.)

Facilities: toilets and picnic tables

What to Bring: Morning tea, a chair (just in case there’s not enough room at the tables), enthusiasm, and love of our local environment.

Upon Arrival: Please register in the Attendance Book and pay your $2 per person participant fee.
